Washington D.C. + Philadelphia, PA
April 23 - May 1st - CorClub members boarded a bus and ventured out to the East Coast. With stops at the Flight 93 Memorial in Shandsville, PA and the Civil War Battlefield in Gettysburg, PA, the group geared up to spend the next few days touring Washington DC.
The second day they visited The Air and Space Museum, Iwo Jima Memorial. The following day they visited Arlington National Cemetery and watched the Changing of the Guard, saw the Kennedy Eternal Flame and were able to see the laying of the wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Day four began at the World War II Memorial where they experienced an “Honor Flight” visiting the memorial. The Veterans were emotional when they shook their hands to thank them for their service.
The fifth day they stopped to see the beautiful and peaceful Washington National Cathedral. Next, they visited George and Martha Washington’s Plantation.
Day six was very busy for this group. They visited the Jefferson, Roosevelt, Martin Luther King and Navy Memorials. They also went to the Newseum, a museum based on the First Amendment, Freedom of the Press. The day concluded with seeing the Korean, Vietnam War, Air Force and Lincoln Memorials.
The next day they stopped at the Naval Academy before heading to Philadelphia, where they spent the next two nights. They saw Independence Hall, The Liberty Bell, the reenactment of Betsy Ross the Flag Maker, and visited the One Liberty Observation Deck, which overlooks Philadelphia. The following day they flew home to the Midwest.
